What is muscovado sugar?
Muscovado sugar is the darkest variety of brown sugar, thanks to its high molasses content retained during the refining process. This gives it a rich, deep flavour, making it ideal for bringing a more complex taste to bakes - and for making especially delicious hot chocolate.
Level up your hot chocolate
If you want to take your hot chocolate to the next level, you could replace the cocoa powder in this recipe with chopped chocolate. Use a dark chocolate with high cocoa solids (at least 70%) for a rich, velvety result. Cocoa powder works well too, just be sure to use a high-quality variety to achieve the best flavour.
Milk or water for hot chocolate?
For us, there’s really no contest when it comes to making hot chocolate with milk or water. Milk adds that creamy texture and flavour. It’s also the only way to go if you’re using real chocolate, as water won’t mix properly when the chocolate melts. For an extra indulgent touch, stir in a splash of cream to make your hot chocolate even more luxurious.
