Orange Chocolate Cake

Orange Chocolate Cake

A lovely chocolate cake with a touch of orange. Served with fresh berries and a good cup of coffee.

Ingredients

250 g Sugar
3 Eggs
2 tsp Oranges Zest (unwaxed)
225 g Wheat flour
5 tbsp Cocoa powder
2 tsp Baking powder
2 tsp Vanilla sugar
200 ml Freshly Squeezed orange juice
100 g Coarsely Chopped Light Orange chocolate
150 g Butter (melted)

Chocolate Frosting

100 g Light Orange chocolate in Smaller Pieces
100 g Butter (melted)
200 g Icing sugar
2 tbsp Cocoa powder
½ tsp Vanilla sugar
2 tbsp Milk

Additions

150 g Fresh blueberries
150 g Fresh raspberries

Instructions

Chocolate Cake: Step 1

  • Beat egg, sugar and orange peel to an airy egg-y mixture. Mix the flour, cocoa, baking powder and vanilla sugar, and turn into the egg mixture, alternating with orange juice. Add chocolate pieces and melted butter and gently fold.

Chocolate Cake: Step 2

  • Cover a greased tin (approximately 22 cm in diameter) with baking paper. Pour the dough into the tin and place the cake in the middle of the oven. Let the orange chocolate cake cool slightly in the tin. Remove the cake and let it cool completely.

Frosting: Step 1

  • Let the chocolate melt over a water bath. Remove the bowl from the water bath, add the melted butter and blend by using a hand mixer. Mix the icing sugar, cocoa and vanilla sugar and blend it into the chocolate mixture with milk, still at high speed.

Frosting: Step 2

  • Place the chocolate frosting in the refrigerator for approximately 2 hours. Beat the frosting so that it becomes creamy again - if it is too firm you can add a little milk.

Frosting: Step 3

  • Place the chilled cake on a dish and decorate it with frosting, on the top and sides. Serve the orange chocolate cake with fresh berries.

  • 55 minutes at 175 ° - traditional oven
