Traditional Rice Pudding

Basic recipe for a successful rice pudding! Rice pudding is a firm favourite and is served, in many places, as a Christmas breakfast, but also as a daily breakfast or a dessert.


Step 1
  • Mix the rice, water, butter and salt in a large heavy based saucepan. Allow to simmer on a low heat for about 10 minutes.
Step 2
  • Add the milk and cinnamon stick and continue cooking the rice on a very low heat for 30-40 minutes.
Step 3
  • Dilute with more milk if it becomes too thick. Add the sugar as required.
