Avocado burger

Burgers are great, but our avocado burger is in a league of its own. We are talking double patties, cheesy Cheddar, and a good dose of chilli mayo, all tucked into a soft brioche bun. And because we like tasty and creamy, there is mashed avocado in there, too.

Ingredients

600 g Minced beef
20 g Butter, for frying
1½ tsp Salt
8 Cheddar cheese
4 Brioche burger buns
100 ml Chilli mayonnaise, for example, sriracha mayonnaise
8 Leaves Curly lettuce
2 Ripe avocados, mashed with a fork
100 g Pickled red onions

Instructions

  • Shape the meat into 8 balls. Heat two frying pans well.
  • Spread the butter and let it melt over high heat without browning.
  • Place 4 meatballs in each pan and press them down with a spatula to form patties.
  • Season with half the salt and fry for about 1 minute. Flip the patties, sprinkle with the remaining salt, and place a slice of cheese on each one. Cook for another 3 minutes.
  • Split the brioche buns and warm them. Spread chilli mayo on the inside of each bun, then stack with two warm patties, lettuce, mashed avocado, and pickled red onions. Serve immediately.

Shape and cook perfect burger patties

Shape the meat into loose balls rather than firm patties. Loose balls ensure a more tender texture and create natural edges for better crisping when smashed. Overworking the meat can make it dense and tough. Heat two frying pans over high heat and melt the butter without browning. Place the meat in the hot pan and press it down firmly with a spatula to create thin patties. Do not overcrowd the pan, as this helps them cook evenly. Let them cook for about 1 minute, then flip once and cook for another 3 minutes until they are done to your liking. Avoid pressing them again after flattening; this will release their natural juices and make them dry.

Find the best ingredients for great taste

Good ingredients make better burgers, which is why we recommend using high-fat minced beef at around 20 % fat for juicy patties. For even better control over texture and fat content, mince the meat yourself with a mix of chuck and brisket. When picking lettuce, choose crisp, vibrant leaves and avoid any that are wilting, browning, or have a stem that is dark or releasing moisture.

Prevent avocados from browning

Mix a little lemon juice into your mashed avocado to slow down browning. The acidity prevents oxidation, keeping it fresh and green for longer.

FAQ: Questions about avocado burger

If you are wondering about avocado burgers, you are in the right place. Find the answers to common questions below.

How do I choose the best avocado for my burger?

The best avocado is dark green and gives just slightly when pressed. If you need one to use immediately, pick one that is soft but still holds its shape. If you are shopping in advance, a firmer avocado is better, as it will need about 4–5 days to ripen. A good trick is to check under the stem; if it pops off easily and reveals green underneath, the avocado is ready to use. If it is brown, it may be overripe.

Can I prepare avocado burgers in advance?

Yes, you can prepare the patties ahead of time by shaping them and placing them on a tray lined with parchment paper. Cover tightly with plastic wrap or a lid to limit air exposure. Store them in the fridge for up to 2 days. Before cooking, let them sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes, so they cook evenly. Other ingredients can also be prepped in advance. Pickled red onions keep well in the fridge, and lettuce can be washed, dried, and stored wrapped in paper towels. Buns should be stored in an airtight bag at room temperature. Mashed avocado, however, is best prepared fresh, as it browns quickly even with lemon juice.

Can avocado burgers be made throughout the year?

Absolutely! You can enjoy these burgers any time of the year. In the summer, cook them on a grill for a smoky touch, or use a stovetop when cooking indoors. This recipe works well with both methods, so you can make it regardless of the season.

How do I store leftover avocado burger?

If the burger is already assembled, store it in an airtight container in the fridge and eat it within a day. The buns may become soggy, and the avocado may brown, so storing the ingredients separately is better when possible. If you have leftover patties, keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat them on medium heat until warmed through before serving. As for the other ingredients, buns can stay at room temperature in an airtight bag, while lettuce should be kept in the fridge wrapped in paper towels. Pickled red onions are stored well in the fridge, but mashed avocado is best made fresh.

Enjoy our easy, creamy avocado burger

Our easy avocado burger is the answer to any burger craving. It checks all the boxes for a great and comforting burger. First, it is quick to make, and in just 30 minutes, you can satisfy that craving. Second, every layer brings something different, with some parts being crisp, some tangy, and others packing a little kick. And third, it is incredibly juicy, so grab some napkins because things might get messy.

But the real surprise is the avocado. It might not be the first topping that comes to mind, but once you try it, there is no going back. Mashed until soft and fluffy, it settles right into the burger like a buttery cloud, making each bite smoother and creamier.

Comfort food comes in many forms. Besides our avocado burger, try our classic Neapolitan pizza, a juicy surf and turf, smoky cevapcici, or crisp corn dogs for something equally satisfying.

Double up on juicy patties with melted cheese

Two patties mean double the flavour and a better bite. Searing them at high heat locks in the juices while creating crispy, caramelised edges. The result is a burger that is rich, tender, and packed with deep, beefy flavour. As they sizzle, the aged Cheddar melts into every crevice, coating the patties with its bold, slightly sharp notes. Its creamy texture sinks into the meat, softening the crisp edges and making the burger even more luscious.

Filled with spicy mayo, crunchy salad, and pickled onions

The toppings complete the burger, layered so that each one brings something different without taking over. Lettuce is a classic companion, providing a fresh crunch that keeps things light. Pickled onions add a sharp, briny tang with a touch of sweetness. And to round it out, chilli mayo spreads onto the soft bun, giving it a lingering heat while keeping everything smooth. A burger is only as good as its toppings, and these toppings are terrific!

Serve it with fries and other sides

This avocado burger needs proper sides: crispy chips, skinny fries, or chunky wedges. Basically, whatever suits the mood. They are the go-to sides, the ones you pile on the plate without thinking, with a good dip on the side like aioli, ketchup, or mayo.

But if it is a full-on burger night, it is time to bring out the good stuff. Onion rings for that golden crunch, mozzarella sticks for the gooey cheese pull, and a fresh, crunchy slaw to keep things lively. And, of course, garlic bread. Warm, buttery, and far too easy to snack on while waiting for the burgers to hit the table.

Include a few of your own ideas

There are many ways to switch up this avocado burger without losing what makes it great. If pickled onions are not your thing, fresh red onions give a sharper, more pungent bite, while caramelised onions melt into the burger with deep, sweet richness.

The avocado mash can also take a different direction, leaning more towards guacamole. A squeeze of lime lifts the flavours, a pinch of chilli flakes turns up the heat, and a bit of coriander gives it a herby kick.

Cheese is another easy swap. Aged Cheddar can be replaced with blue cheese for a stronger, tangier flavour or with Gouda for a milder, creamier melt. And, for even more layers, slices of fresh tomato can bring some juicy sweetness, or you could throw in some crispy bacon for a smoky, salty bite.
