Lurpak® is now the UK’s number one selling butter and margarine brand both in terms of sales volume and value, according to latest market data from AC Nielsen.
Lurpak®, produced by the UK’s largest dairy company and cooperative, Arla, has been number one in terms of value for the last seven years. Today, the brand is worth £299m, a 2.7% year on year increase, and £130m more than closest rival Flora. In volume terms, sales of Lurpak exceeded sales of Flora by 500 tonnes in the latest 52 weeks.
Stuart Ibberson, Business Unit Director at Arla Foods, said: “Lurpak’s performance is exceptional when you consider how the market is performing and it is fantastic that we can celebrate our new No.1 volume status. Butter is steadily overtaking margarine in public opinion and this highlights that trend.
“Lurpak® is a premium quality brand, and its growth reflects the choices many people are taking when it comes to food and ingredients. By investing in new products, including the Cook’s Range products which appeal to passionate cooks, we have been able to really drive brand growth.”
Arla is the UK’s largest supplier of butter and spreads, and also home to a range of household dairy brands including Castello, Anchor and Cravendale.
