Using our products

Do I need to sterilise my baby’s bottles?

It’s important to sterilise bottles and teats to protect your baby from any infections. You can do this by using cold water sterilising solution, steam sterilising or boiling.

How do I heat up Baby&Me Organic formula milk?

We do not recommend reheating our formula milk as it can increase the risk of bacterial growth, which could be harmful to your baby.

You should never heat baby formula in the microwave as it can create pockets of dangerously hot milk that could burn your baby’s mouth.

You can re-heat the milk by:

  • Running the sealed bottle under hot water for a few minutes
  • Placing the sealed bottle in a bowl of hot water away from a direct heat source
  • Using a bottle warmer appliance

Once the bottle is warm shake it well and test the temperature by squirting a drop or two onto the inside of your wrist. It should feel lukewarm, not hot.

How long can a prepared bottle last at room temperature?

Throw away any prepared bottles that have been sitting at room temperature for 1 hour or longer.

If I have baby milk formula left over, can I offer it again?

Avoid giving your baby any leftover formula from a previous feed because harmful bacteria could have formed since then.

If your baby doesn’t drink all of the bottle in one feed you should throw away the leftover milk.

My baby is always hungry. How much baby milk formula should I give?

You will find a detailed feeding guide on the product label. Depending on your baby’s growth pattern their feeding will increase. It’s perfectly normal for a baby to feed little and often, such as every 2-3 hours.

If you are at all concerned about your baby’s feeding needs, we’d recommend speaking to your midwife or GP.

Can I freeze the baby milk formula it and use it later?

No, we do not recommend freezing powdered or prepared formula.

When should I prepare bottles?

It’s completely up to you and may depend on your daily routine. To reduce the risk of your baby getting an upset tummy you should make up a fresh bottle for each feed.

However, we know that may not always be possible if you are going out and about, so we’d recommend you can take a sterilised thermos flask with freshly boiled water. Once you’re ready to make up a feed prepare a bottle as normal.

Just remember to test the temperature of the milk on your inner wrist before offering it to your baby.

Why do you have to boil the water before mixing in the powder?

Boiling the water helps to ensure the formula's safety by killing any bacteria that could be present.

Can I use Baby&Me Organic products in cooking, such as porridge or mashed potato?

Yes, you can mix our Follow-on Milk with other weaning foods. Just make sure that you prepare the formula following the on pack instructions before adding it to your cooking.

My baby is over 6 months old, can I still feed them Baby&Me Organic First Infant Milk?

Our stage 1 First Infant Milk formula is suitable from birth and beyond 6 months. However, we would recommend using our stage 2 Follow-on Milk for babies aged 6 months+ because it’s nutritionally tailored to complement a baby’s weaning diet.

Can I use Baby&Me Organic Follow-on Milk if my baby is older than 12 months?

You can use our follow-on milk until you feel your child is ready to move on. However, the NHS recommends that you start to introduce whole cows' milk into your child’s diet from 12 months.

Usually, as your child starts to drink more ordinary cow’s milk you may find that they prefer it so you can stop offering stage 2 formula.

Seek advice from your health provider if you have any reservations.

How would I know if my baby is intolerant to formula milk?

According to the NHS, cows’ milk allergy only affects around 2-7.5% of babies under the age of one. The signs of a cows’ milk allergy may show immediately or a few hours or even days after feeding, these can include:

  • Stomach cramps
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Wind
  • Rashes
  • Eczema

If you believe your baby is showing any signs of an allergy or lactose intollerance, contact your GP for advice. If at any point your baby appears to be struggling to breathe call 999 for immediate medical care.

What does it mean to be organic?

In order for food to be labelled organic, all ingredients that are of agricultural origin must be organically produced, while vitamins and minerals can be conventional (not organic). For Baby&Me Organic, that means the milk, which is the primary ingredient of the products, comes from organic farms.

Are Baby&Me Organic products suitable for Halal or Kosher diets?

Our products do not have a Halal or Kosher certificate, but they are suitable for vegetarians.

Are Baby&Me Organic products suitable for vegetarians?

Yes, our formula milk is suitable for a vegetarian diet.

Are Baby&Me Organic products gluten free?

Yes, there is no gluten in our formula milk.

Does Baby&Me Organic have a lot of sugar?

The levels of sugar and other nutrients in our infant milk formulas are strictly regulated by EU law in order to fulfil a baby’s nutritional needs.

Our infant milk only contains the natural sugar lactose which is naturally found in milk. It doesn’t contain sucrose, fructose, maltose, glucose, glucose syrups, maltodextrin, honey, pre-cooked or gelatinized starches.

Why should I choose Baby&Me Organic Follow-on Milk?

Breast milk is best for your baby, but if you choose to move on or are unable to breastfeed our Follow-on Milk is nutritionally designed to support their development from 6 to 12 months, as part of a balanced diet.

Please note that it is not recommended to introduce cows’ milk into your baby’s diet until they are at least 12 months old.

Key nutrients include:

  • Calcium and vitamin D for normal growth and development of bones
  • Iodine which contributes to normal growth
  • Iron which contributes to normal cognitive development

My baby is eating solid food. If I choose not to breastfeed, why should I give them Baby&Me Organic Follow-on Milk?

Even though you have started to wean your baby, breast milk or follow-on milk will remain an important part of their daily diet. Follow-on Milk is designed to nutritionally complement a mixed weaning diet.

Typically, babies aged 6-8 months would have around 3-4 milk meals per day, babies older than 8 months may have 2-3. However, your baby’s appetite will determine the required amount. Check the product label for further details.

What’s the difference between stage 1 and stage 2 formula?

  • Baby&Me Organic stage 1 First Infant Milk is tailored for babies from birth
  • Baby&Me Organic stage 2 Follow-on Milk is tailored for babies aged 6-12 months

Your baby’s nutritional needs change as they grow and develop. Baby&Me Organic formulas are tailored to meet the requirements of your baby throughout these stages.

How should I store Baby&Me Organic?

Store in a cool, dry place and use within 3 weeks after opening. Always keep the powder and scoop in the original tin with the lid sealed after every use. This will ensure the powder is stored safely and will prevent any moisture coming into contact with the powder.

Do not store Baby&Me Organic formula powder in the refrigerator as it will clump and will become difficult to measure the accurate dosage.

How long can Baby&Me Organic formula milk keep?

  • Unopened: 18 months, see bottom of the tin for the use by date.
  • Opened: up to 3 weeks in original packaging with lid sealed.
  • Mixed: Feed to your baby immediately after preparation. We do not recommend you store ready mixed formula in the fridge.

I have left Baby&Me Organic open overnight, should I throw it away?

Unfortunately we cannot guarantee the quality of the product when it has been left open for a long period of time and is not stored according to the specifications on the product label. Therefore, we recommend throwing out the remaining powder and starting a new can.

Important advice for you

Breastfeeding gives your baby the best start in life.  The World Health Organisation recommends breastfeeding exclusively for the first six months of your baby’s life, followed by continued breastfeeding together with complementary foods.

Breastmilk promotes your baby’s sensory and cognitive development, it protects your baby against infectious and chronic diseases and can help your baby to recover quicker during illness.

Unlike infant milks, breastfeeding also contributes to your health and well-being, reducing the risk of ovarian cancer and breast cancer.  It can also build a strong emotional bond between you and your baby.  Breastfeeding is safe for the environment. You should also consider the social and financial implications of using infant milk. It is important for you to eat a healthy, balanced diet during your pregnancy and as you breastfeed. Combining breastfeeding and bottle feeding may reduce your breast milk supply and it may be difficult to reverse the decision not to breastfeed.

Please take advice from your healthcare professional before using Baby&Me Organic.  If you do choose to use our products, please follow the manufacturer’s instructions very carefully as incorrect preparation may make your baby ill.
