New Seal for 2021
You may have noticed that we’ve made a change on our Big Milk, B.O.B and Cravendale bottles. We have recently changed the seal on our bottles to a new lighter version, which has less plastic. Over a full year, this new seal means that we use 5 tons less plastic compared to the current seal. By removing layers of the seal, we are making good progress to a seal that is recyclable, like the rest of the bottle.
Further weight reductions in 2019 brought our 2L bottles down to 34G per bottle and a total reduction of 568 tons of plastic since 2005
TOTAL REDUCTION: 1138 GRAND PIANOS
CRAVENDALE AND B.O.B REDUCED BY ANOTHER 2G PER BOTTLE
In 2018 we shed another 2G per bottle taking our 2L bottles from 38g to 36g
Arla became a founder signatory of the WRAP Plastic Pact in 2018, striving to eliminate single-use packaging and ensure 100% of plastics are reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025
OUR BOTTLES ARE MADE FROM UP TO 40% RECYCLED CONTENT
By using recycled materials we decrease the total carbon footprint of our packaging. Since 2015 Big Milk, Cravendale and Arla B.O.B 2 litre bottles are made from up to 40% recycled materials
WE REDUCED THE WEIGHT OF OUR BOTTLES SAVING 196 TONNES OF PLASTIC!
In 2014 our bottle lightweight project was implemented reducing plastic from 40G to 38G per bottle
A NEW ERA IN MILKBOTTLES
In 2005 we launched the Cravendale with light PureFiltre bottle
Bottles Now 99% Recyclable¹
On the Journey
We know there’s still more to do and we’re looking at new ways to make all our packaging more sustainable and environmentally friendly. Our B.O.B & Cravendale bottles are 99% recyclable and the final piece of the puzzle is the seal. We are working on making this more sustainable so 100% of our milk bottles can be broken down and used again.
Why not glass?
Glass milk bottles might seem like the obvious answer for being more sustainable, but it’s not quite as simple as it sounds. Glass actually takes a lot more energy to be created and melted down for recycling, and takes more energy to get the bottles really clean for use. Glass bottles are also much heavier and take up more room when being transported, which means more carbon emissions and extra lorries on the road, and nobody wants that.
Remember, your Cravendale & B.O.B bottle, lid and label can all fully be recycled in your kerbside recycling bin.
Simply rinse, squash & pop the lid back on, then put it in your plastic recycling bin.
¹ Arla B.O.B and Arla Cravendale 2L bottles with our new seal are 99% recyclable.
